Creating Successful Online Learning: investigating the science and art of instruction based on design

How can you create online teaching that is engaging, enriching and powerful, but yet not confusing for the student? Project led by Nick Slater.

About the project

What is the project about?

How can you create online teaching that is engaging, enriching and powerful, but yet not confusing for the student?

What is the benefit to students?

As this is not specific to certain areas, all students would benefit by having more engaging on-line content suitable for the target audience and incorporating flipped learning and chunked online sessions throughout departments. Students can maximise their potential by utilising online course material to introduce, recap and enrich their learning.

Educators have swiftly incorporated online learning due to the pandemic, but it’s still in its infancy, now we need to produce online material effectively, efficiently and dynamically to truly impact learning in the digital age.

How will the impact of the project be measured?

Online learning was gaining momentum before the Covid 19 lockdown forced educational institutes to quickly implement temporary measures. But where are we now? How do we engage the hard to reach? Why did some learners engage and some learners did not? Where do we stand moving forward from the lessons learnt and the new techniques and tools at our disposal?

What will the outcome be?

  • Training for staff to improve online teaching across Inspire Education Group in the form of a brief informative presentation.
  • Example unit consisting of various approaches to online learning.
