Boosting employability and progression success rates for Performing Arts students based on local employability needs

Project led by David Connor.

About the project

What is the project about?

Boosting employability and progression success rates for Performing Arts students based on local employability needs.

What is the benefit to students?

Students will have a much clearer idea of the skills they need to develop in order to increase their chances of employment in the local and national performing arts sector/industry.

This will come from working more closely with local stakeholders and seeing how the skills being taught at College can be applied in a working environment within the Peterborough area.

This should benefit all students on the Performing Arts cohort – those who want to go into industry straight from FE, and those progressing to an industry-related course at HE.

How will the impact of the project be measured?

The impact of the project will be measured by an increased number of FE Performing Arts students finding employment in the local performing arts sector, and also progressing to studying HE at UCP where they can develop their skills in relation to local employability needs.

What will the outcome be?

Outcomes will include:

  • Improvements and changes to the curriculum planning to reflect the specific skills that employers have identified that they need.
  • A closer working relationship between the teaching team and local stakeholders, including collaborating on performances/projects that promote involvement in the performing arts in the Peterborough area.
  • An increase in the number of guest lecturers and more site visits to local theatre companies and arts organisations.
  • In a broader sense, the project should help to establish a much greater relationship between the College and local stakeholders so that students at the College (and those that progress to studying Performing Arts at UCP) are seen as a resource for performing arts projects in Peterborough.
  • The presentation to staff will also include guidance on how different curriculum areas can adapt this project to their own local needs.
