Promoting learning,
improvement and subject knowledge for our regional economy

The project is about providing opportunities for staff to undertake continuous professional development that is student focussed and promotes learning, improvement and subject knowledge in key sectors of our regional economy.

About FEPD

In this project staff will be given the opportunity to undertake industry updating, subject updating or conduct action research projects in their teaching practice. All project sponsors have considered the focus of the activity; how it will be shared with other staff; and how it will inform the curriculum and improve the learning experience of students.

Three Parts to the Project

The FEPD project can be split into three core strands – all relating to sector-based research

1

Industry Updating

This involves staff working within the industry that they teach in, to learn about new working practices. Once the activity is complete, staff will be required to reflect upon it in their professional development portfolio, share with team members and show how it will inform the curriculum.
2

Subject Updating

This involves staff conducting research to update the subject knowledge that they teach. Once the activity is complete, staff will be required to reflect upon it in their professional development portfolio, share with team members and show how it will inform the curriculum.
3

Action research projects

This involves staff conducting action research projects into teaching and learning practice. These projects should be informed by the needs of the students being taught by the researcher. Once they are completed they will be shared on the Teaching and Learning Hub for other staff to benefit from.
